Background:

Spanish Town Citizens Against Gun Violence was convened by Rosemarie Greene who had just returned to Jamaica on vacation. Her brother was murdered on his farm in Spanish Town. It was at this point that she decided to stay and help fight gun violence.  

 

Description of Organization:

Spanish Town Citizens Against Gun Violence a social agency, fills the void created by the sociological toxins in Spanish Town. The mission of the organization is to bring Peace, Empowerment, and employment to the community, restore order and end gun violence through educational and cultural programs. The STCAGV provides literacy, numeracy, computer classes and  steel band training as well as other unique programs that attract youth for their empowerment. 

This organization is an umbrella organization for The Smokefree Action Coalition, Child Alert, and the St. Catherine Heritage Foundation.   The organization performs a number of civic functions such as beautification in keeping with the broken window theory.       

   

 

Some of our objectives are:

 

1. To reform our society in bringing peaceful solutions to families, one child, one father, one mother, one home, one community, one peaceful Spanish Town and Sligoville. 

 

2.  To establish similar organizations throughout Jamaica with the same objectives as those set up in Spanish Town.

  

Services Provided

Advocacy , computer training, literacy and numeracy classes and training in steel band

 

Eligibility Criteria or Requirements

Desire to excel in areas of Spanish Town’s life, ability to read, be able to be numerate, computer trained and to be employed.

 

All programs are free of cost to the participants.

 

Cost of Registration / Enrollment

There is no charge for registration or enrollment.

 

Process of Enrollment / Registration

The public is free to visit our organization to become a participant.

 

Benefits Provided

Literacy, Numeracy and Computer classes steel band training and other innovative programs.

 

Other Useful Information

Liaise with both central and local government making representation for the people of Spanish Town and Sligoville  

 

Liaise with corporations, companies, NGOs, and government in order to forge synergy between them.
